Born out of the 1850s Pike Peaks Gold Rush, Denver, otherwise known as the Mile High City has become one of the fastest growing cities in the US in the last 10 years and who could blame the people that flock to this beautiful scenic setting with an abundance of sports and sights?

The city is aptly named from the fact that it sits exactly one mile above sea level and with the foothills of the Rocky Mountains just 12 miles away from downtown, wherever you choose to stay, you are going to have some amazing views (up to 200 visible peaks). However, Denver’s appeal goes beyond its beauty and hosts an amazing food and craft beer scene, rumour has it, on any given day, Denver breweries will be producing more beer than any other city in the US! Combine this with all four major sports teams in the downtown area and you’ve got yourselves the basis of a GREAT sports trip.

Whether you cheer for the Broncos (NFL), Rockies (MLB), Avalanche (NHL) or Nuggets (NBA), all four sports stadiums are within a walkable distance (temperature dependent) from downtown hotels and one thing you get in Denver stadiums (Broncos & Rockies), is an amazing backdrop to the action. Outside of the games themselves, a keen sports fan should also consider stadium tours of each venue, Colorado Sports Hall of Fame, National Ballpark Museum and on Rockies game days, a trip to the Sandlot Brewery (the first brewery to be opened inside a major league ballpark).

Denver also has some great college options within an easy driveable distance and if you are happy to hire a car then there are some great scenic journeys to be had. The University of Colorado at Boulder is the closest option (approx 30 miles away) and their football team the Buffaloes play in the Pac-12. Outside of the Boulder game you should also consider taking in the Flatirons which surround the city and you must see the Dushanbe Teahouse, a completely original building.

The other two good options are both just over an hour’s drive away, you have the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs which would also open the door to see the awe inspiring Royal Gorge where you can walk the bridge, zipline or even take part in white water rafting. Then the other option would be Colorado State University in Fort Collins where the streets remind you of Main Street USA at Disneyland and hiking, biking and horse riding are popular activities here. All three are division one colleges and can provide a great addition to a Denver sports trip.

Whether you have a passion for Denver sports teams, food & drink, beautiful scenery or just want to try a slightly different US City, Denver has it all and can provide so many options! Submit one of our request forms NOW and we can get to work on your dream trip.
