Boston is a city that’s blessed with a rich sporting heritage – home to the Celtics, Bruins and Red Sox, who all play in the city itself, and of course the New England Patriots – the dominant NFL franchise since the turn of the millennium, with Tom Brady and Bill Belichick-led teams helping themselves to six Super Bowl titles.

The Patriots are a huge draw for fans from all over the US and the rest of the world and this has proven no different from the UK – we’ve arranged many, many trips for UK and Irish Pats fans. Although the Patriots play at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, we will normally encourage fans to go for the downtown Boston accommodation option – simply because it’s such a great city to explore away from game day.

Being one of the oldest cities in the US, “Bean Town” is imbued with a sense of history and this is exemplified by the Freedom Trail, a walkable route that includes stops at some of the most important sites in the city’s history, from Boston Common to the site of the Boston Massacre to the Paul Revere House.

Boston is also home to a lovely harbour area (that’s once was the recipient of a large amount of tea – such a waste), from where you can take a lunch or dinner cruise, do a bit of aquarium whale watching or even take a day trip to Cape Cod.

On top of the sights, you’ve also got a serious selection of places to eat and drink. If you were alive during the 80’s, a stop to the original Cheers bar (spoiler: on the inside it looks nothing like it does on the TV, probably because that was a set) is a must. Heading to the North End and Little Italy, along with its host of bars and comedy clubs, is also highly recommended and Copley Square not only offers dining and drinking options, but also some fantastic shopping opportunities.
