Is staying home, distancing and isolating starting to get to you? Feeling the wanderlust that only a cracking holiday can cure and looking to plan your next travel adventure for when this is all behind us? Fear not! We’re working from home too and, while we can’t wait to get fans booked to experience their perfect sports holiday, we thought it’d be a great idea to offer some virtual tours of some top US destinations. Known not only for their sports teams, these cities and states also offer a lot more and we hope our guides inspire you, ready for sunnier days ahead!

In our first instalment of the Virtual Tourism series, we look at Massachusetts and what their local attractions are currently offering:

The New England Aquarium, whilst currently closed to the public is offering regularly scheduled live presentations, these can be found here. They go behind the scenes at different areas of the aquarium and show how the animals are cared for during these uncertain times. On Fridays at 11am, they also have a Facebook live ‘mini lecture’ and Q&A with National Geographic photographer Brian Skerry. Last week, he dove into Shark encounters that the experiences that he has personally been through.

Museums and Art Galleries have also started their own virtual tours or virtual exhibits. Many can be seen through Google Arts & Culture which offers online tours of hundreds of museums around the world, including several in Boston such as the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and Museum of Fine Arts. For the younger members of the family home from school, they will want to check out the Boston Children’s Museum or the Eric Carle Museum (author of the Hungry Caterpillar).

USS Constitution – also known as Old Ironsides – is the world’s oldest commissioned naval vessel still afloat. Whilst the ship is closed to the public they are offering daily live tours at 1pm through their Facebook page. The tours started a few weeks ago but you can catch up with every past tour on their page.

Take a trip to Salem and the Witch Trials Online Sites Tour. An in-depth online tour of the witchcraft trials sites which allows you to view key sites in and around Boston that are related to the events of the year 1692.

Escape the doom and gloom of the ongoing virus and explore Cape Cod with a growing list of virtual experiences. From Cape Cod learning tours to live Yoga classes and a great option for the kids in the OPAK (Ocean Protection Advocacy Kids) free webinars which engage children and teach them about the importance of ocean ecosystems.

Other virtual tours and experiences in Massachusetts include the Museum of Fine Arts, they have YouTube videos displaying their collections and these can be found here. Discover MassArt (College of Art & Design) from the comfort of your own home and view 360° images of the facilities and spaces. Or discover Plymouth, Massachusetts – the home of the pilgrims – through their interactive website which includes some great drone footage!
